1 dead, 1 wounded in Odessa parking lot shootings

Gunfire during an altercation outside a West Texas motel has left one man dead and another wounded.

Odessa police say the shootings happened early Thursday in the parking lot of a Studio 6 motel.

Cpl. Steve LeSueur (luh-SWEER’) says nobody has been arrested as investigators try to determine what sparked the deadly disturbance.

LeSueur identified the man who died as 36-year-old Dewayne Green of El Paso. Police say 40-year-old Spencer Johnson suffered a leg wound and is hospitalized in fair condition. LeSueur had no hometown for Johnson and wasn’t sure why either man was in Odessa.

LeSueur says police believe the two men knew each other. Investigators had no information on whether the men were motel guests.

A message left Thursday for motel management wasn’t immediately returned.
