Man dead after stabbing in Anthony, N.M.

A New Mexico man is dead after Dona Ana County Sheriff’s deputies say he was stabbed on his way home from work.

It happened on the 1200 block of Church St. in Anthony, New Mexico.

The man has been identified at 21-year-old Gilberto Wences.

One resident, tells ABC-7 the incident sparks concern over the safety of the neighborhood.

“There’s quite the commotion, a lot of police officers, and the street was blocked off, from what I hear, somebody stumbled out from the alley and they were stabbed and they died in front of the little store in front of my house.”

Deputies were called after 11 P.M. Saturday night.

When they arrived, they found Wences dead from multiple stab wounds.

“It’s very disturbing when these kind of things happen in your neighborhood, it’s kind of dangerous.”

They say Wences worked at the McDonald’s restaurant in Anthony, Texas, minutes away from where he lived.

ABC-7 spoke with his family, they say Wences recently started walking to and from work because his car was not working.

They say he was very cautious when walking home. Residents say Church St. is known to be a dangerous area at night.

“Well, it’s pretty rough, it’s not really safe to be walking around at night, and doing stuff like that. You just have to be careful…and be careful.”
