Oil and gas industry job fair

West Texas oil companies are in the Borderland looking to hire truck drivers and diesel mechanics.

President of Direct Recruitment Services, Mauro Medina, said there is a shortage of workers in Odessa, Midland and New Mexico oil fields.

Direct Recruitment Services works with oil companies to recruit workers from El Paso.

“We’re so busy with the oil industry, we sometimes don’t have enough drivers for clients so they are asking that we find more,” said Medina.

He added the jobs are helping boost the economy in El Paso because workers’ paychecks are coming back to their families in the area.

Medina said most oil companies offer benefits, health insurance, 401K and even housing while they are working. Workers can earn $80K to $120K a year.

Companies are looking for applicants with Commercial Driver’s Licenses or have at least one year of driving experience. Applicants must 21 years of age.

Potential applicants should be aware that the line of work is very physical and requires manual labor, with an average of 80 to 120 hours per week.

Medina said some companies offer on-the-job training since workers will be hauling and working with chemicals. Oil field work is also part of the job description.
