High school teacher arrested in Las Cruces for alleged sexual contact with a student

A teacher at Centennial High School in Las Cruces has been arrested after police suspected him of alleged sexual contact with a student.

Phillip Hernandez, 25, was charged with three counts of criminal sexual contact of a minor. Each of those counts are felonies.

He was a first-year theater arts teacher.

A 17-year-old boy told authorities Hernandez touched him inappropriately several times both on and off campus.

Las Cruces Public Schools officials say Hernandez has resigned.

He was jailed on a $15,000 cash-only bond.
