Remembering Crystal Saldana: Car crash victim’s father speaks
A father speaks to ABC-7 after losing his daughter in a fatal car crash this weekend.
Crystal Saldana, 22, was hit and killed after police say a car driven by 27-year-old Brian Gamero slammed into the back of Saldana’s car. The collision forced Saldana’s car to the opposite side of Zaragoza, when a ford truck struck and killed her.
El Paso police arrested and charged Gamero with intoxicated manslaughter. On Monday Crystal’s father, Freddy Saldana, sat down to talk about how he’s grieving.
“I don’t have words to express what I feel right now because I’m so devastated like her mom,” Saldana said. He never expected to lose the daughter he was proud of and who had a promising future ahead. “I’m gonna miss her,” he said.
All Crystal’s dad can do now is try to remember the good times he had with his daughter.
“She just enjoyed being around people, she always had a big smile, she was never selfish, she always looked out after each other,” Saldana said.
“Crystal could have been the perfect role model, simply because she did things the right way. Her schooling, her athletics, her love for her parents,” family friend Ed Torres said.
According to the arrest affidavit obtained by the ABC-7 I-Team, Gamero said two people at a Whataburger wanted to kill him and he was trying to get away. He admitted to having one drink at a nearby bar to the responding officer. Gamero allegedly smelled of alcohol, couldn’t keep his balance and he refused to provide a blood sample to police.
