4 arrested in alleged kidnapping in Las Cruces that also involved stolen Xbox

Las Cruces Police arrested three men and a woman they believed to be involved in holding an 18-year-old man against his will have been arrested and charged with kidnapping.

Craig E. Luchetti, 33, Stephen Alvarez, 35, Adam Aceves Barela, 36, and Veronica M. Altamirano, 31, are each charged with one first-degree felony count of kidnapping.

Las Cruces Police detectives said that the 18-year-old victim was an acquaintance of Altamirano’s and on June 4 was accused by her boyfriend, Luchetti, of stealing an Xbox.

Police said Luchetti and others are suspected of using duct tape to confine the victim to a chair in a backyard shed at 1720 Willow St. where he was beaten and held against his will. The victim also had jewelry, a cell phone and his wallet stolen during the incident.

Police said the victim was then forced into the residence but escaped through a window and fled to a residence on Dogwood Street where a homeowner called 911.

The victim did not sustain any serious physical injuries, according to police.

Luchetti, Alvarez, Barela and Altamirano are all being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with cash-only bonds set at $25,000 each. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
