Alamogordo man arrested on murder charge after allegedly shooting man in fight

An Alamogordo man is being held without bond after another man was killed by a single shot from a 22 caliber rifle.

Police told ABC-7 that 21-year old Albert Whitehead intervened in a neighbor’s domestic dispute Sunday night and became involved in a physical struggle with the victim after he saw the man throw his girlfriend to the ground.

Whitehead told police he didn’t realize the gun went off in the struggle.

He was performing CPR on the victim when police arrived.

Whitehead was booked into the Otero County Jail on an open count of murder.

The dead man has not yet been identified.
