Gospel Rescue Mission gives clothes, school supplies to needy families

It’s back to school time. That means stores are full of shoppers getting supplies and clothes. Those less fortunate went to a different kind of store — the clothing room at the Gospel Rescue Mission.

The clothing room is helping hundreds of needy Las Cruces families.

Volunteers have been busy helping families pick out clothes and shoes.

Any student registered in a Las Cruces school, private or public, can go and get free clothes, shoes and even school supplies.

“With the economy being the way it is and people looking for work, it’s hard for everybody and we can help,” said volunteer Ellen Flesher.

Single moms told ABC-7 this program takes a huge weight off their shoulders.

“It’s really hard buying everything for every kid. This place helps a lot, not just to save money but to make me happy,” said single mother Yeneareli Gonzales.

Another mom said the program is a blessing and a great help.

The rescue mission is helping more than 600 children this year.

Volunteers said it’s great to know they help put clothes on these kids’ backs and smiles on their faces.
