Las Cruces Radio Station, KKVS-FM 98.7, Changes Format
Adams Radio of Las Cruces has flipped the format of one of its radio stations from Regional Mexican to Classic Hits. KKVS-FM 98.7 began playing Classic Hits at Noon today after a 12-hour introductory stunt of hard rock. As part of the shift-in-focus of the radio station, Sheila Kirsch has been named Program Director of Classic Hits 98.7. Kirsch is a 15-year veteran of local radio and was previously Program Director at KGRT-FM, 103.9. As Kirsch transitions to her new role at the Classic Hits station, KGRT welcomes Shannon Ellis as Program Director.
“I am confident that Ellis will build upon Kirsch’s accomplishments,” said Market Manager Veronica Vaillancourt-Test, “We are excited to fill a need in the community by launching the market’s first Classic Hits format, which we expect will be enthusiastically embraced by listeners and advertisers alike. It’s a great mix of fun and nostalgia, and it sounds great on the air. We’re going in a great new direction with KGRT and Classic Hits 98.7.”
Classic Hits 98.7 will play a mix of Top 40 Pop/Rock Classic Hits from artists such as Bryan Adams, John Cougar Mellencamp, Journey, and Bruce Springsteen. “Generation X will love this station,” said Kirsch, “We identified a need for an era of music that was missing from the airwaves in Las Cruces.” Classic Hits 98.7 launches commercial-free and Kirsch will announce the staff in the near future. Classic Hits 98.7 will air locally-produced programming to super-serve an audience across Southern New Mexico.
