Mesilla, NM building new gazebo for $150,000

The Town of Mesilla, New Mexico will spend $150,000 to build a new gazebo in its historic plaza.

With that much money, you can buy a decent house. So, ABC-7’s New Mexico mobile newsroom called the town’s mayor and asked for an explanation.

Mayor Nora Barraza tells ABC-7 the money covers much more than the gazebo.

First, they had to pay a firm to design the structure. The money also covers the cost of replacing electrical wiring, brand new street lamps around the park, and two handicap ramps on each end of the plaza.

The gazebo should be completed in April, just in time for spring weddings.
