Names of driver killed, passenger injured in crash near Van Horn have been released

July 8, 2014 update:

The identity of the man killed in Monday’s accident near Van Horn has been released.

He has been identified as Salvador Lozano Delgado.

Delgado was the driver of the pick-up truck that was towing a utility trailer.

The passenger in the vehicle is Victor Manuel Vargas. He was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso and is in critical condition.

July 7, 2014 story: Hudspeth County sheriff’s dispatch tells ABC-7 that an accident has forced the closure of Interstate ten in both directions at mile marker 121.

Hudspeth County Sheriff Arvin West told ABC-7 that a truck was pulling a small trailer full of scrap metal in the eastbound shoulder of I-10 when it was hit by another truck and sent into oncoming westbound traffic.

The truck was then hit by another vehicle.

One person died at the scene and another was flown to El Paso in critical condition.

An emergency personnel member also was injured after falling about 12 feet down an embankment.

I-10 West was closed until about 1 p.m. July 7.
