Legal Immigrants Respond to Recent Immigration Influx

More than 450 immigrants were sworn in as official United States citizens Friday.

The immigrants came from 35 different countries, and took part of the naturalization ceremony led by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

Naturalization is the process by which U.S. citizenship is conferred upon foreign citizens or nationals after fulfilling the requirements established by Congress.

But ABC-7 wanted to get these new citizens’ point of view on the current immigration in the Borderland. Most said these immigrants should be given a chance to prove themselves, but wait in line like everybody else.

“If they can prove that they are working and they are helping this country with their work,” one said. “yes, I think they should be, immediately.”

“I think they should wait in line just like we did,” another said. “I don’t think they should just be granted the citizenship.”

Not one person ABC-7 spoke with said the undocumented immigrants should be deported to their original countries.
