El Paso County Commissioners Court passes resolution opposing Gov. Perry’s militarization of border

El Paso County today unanimously passed a resolution opposing Gov. Rick Perry’s “militarization” of the border.

But some County residents felt the resolution was un-American.

County resident Sal Gomez says County Judge Veronica Escobar is anti U.S. military — and pledging allegiance to various South american countries.

Escobar questions Perry’s use of $12 million a month to militarize the border with about a thousand National Guard troops.

She says the National guard isn’t trained to enforce civil immigration law or deal with unaccompanied immigrant children

“Gov. Perry claims his efforts are meant to combat crime, despite the fact that the Texas border communities and local law enforcement agencies are affirming that there has been no increase in crime, since the refugee influx increased, and that we continue to remain safer than other large U.S. cities in Texas,” Escobar said.

Escobar added that she wishes the taxpayer dollars would be spent to improve American education, transportation and healthcare.
