Las Cruces investigate armed robbery, officer-involved shooting
Las Cruces police areinvestigating a suspected armed robbery and shooting that took place late Friday evening.
Right before 11 p.m. Friday, the Las Cruces Police Department was called out to the Valero Corner Store on the 2600 block of Pichacho.
Police said the early information from the investigation told them that a Hispanic man, possibly in his late teens or early 20s, was armed with a large knife and refused the officer’s commands to drop the weapon.
Investigators with LCPD’s Officer-involved Incident Task Forcebelieve the officer fired at least one round, striking the subject. The man was treated at the scene before being airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso. His condition is unknown.
The Las Cruces Police officer was not injured. LCPD’s standard procedure is to place the officer on administrative leave pending further investigation.
