Federal judge blocks part of Texas abortion law
A federal judge blocked part of the law that would have forced more than half of the state’s abortion clinics to close, including the only clinic in El Paso.
A U.S. district judge in Austin said the requirement for clinics to meet the building standards of hospital-style surgery centers, placed an unconstitutional burden on a woman’s right to an abortion. That requirement was set to take effect Monday.
The state attorney general will now seek an appeal.
