City Council to discuss hiring Tommy Gonzalez as city manager on Tuesday; Gonzalez could start June 23

El Paso City Council is scheduled to vote Tuesday on whether lone finalist Tommy Gonzalez should be hired as El Paso’s second city manager.

Current manager Joyce Wilson apparently won’t be staying on the job until September as previously announced.

A proposed contract for Gonzalez has a June 23 start date.

There’s also an item on Tuesday’s council agenda proposing to name Sean McGlynn the interim city manager, effective on May 21.

He’s currently a deputy city manager in charge of development and tourism.
City Rep. Emma Acosta told ABC-7 she believes Wilson will stick around for a few months in a consulting role to smooth the transition.

The terms of Gonzalez’s proposed contract include a starting salary the same as wilson’s – nearly $240,000 a year.

It’s a five year deal that includes up to $25,000 for moving and temporary housing expenses.
The City will also make an annual contribution of $15,000 Gonzalez’s retirement account and provide $500 a month in automotive expenses.
