El Paso Electric to service 2 pieces of eqiupment; trying to minimize power interruptions

El Paso Electric will be servicing two pieces of equipment now and through the night.

“El Paso Electric (EPE) is constantly monitoring our equipment and usage. In doing so, EPE has identified two pieces of equipment that need to be serviced. We are taking proactive steps as crews work around the clock. We are beginning now and will work into the night. EPE is doing everything possible to avoid any interruptions in service to our customers by being proactive and preventative. The public is encouraged to call our outage number to report any problems,” El Paso Electric spokesman George De La Torre said in an email.

EPE Distribution Line Supervisor Anthony Ramos said the electric company prepares all winter for what they’ll face with the hot weather in late spring and summer.

“We stock up on transformers and we stock up on equipment we’ll need,” Ramos said.

EPE also runs more crews during the months when it is hottest.

The crews deal with three different outages – heat, load, and vehicle related outages.

“We do realize we’ll have more cable failures due to the heat,” Ramos said. “It’s the nature of the underground system.”

Ramos said customers should not worry about running their air conditioner.

“You need to run your air conditioner. We’re going to provide the power you need,” Ramos said. “We do ask that you run all your appliances efficiently. Try not to run your dryers or your ovens during the day because they heat up your home which requires you to need your air even cooler.”
