Las Cruces Police will have sobriety checkpoints, other initiatives during June
The Las Cruces Police Department will have four sobriety checkpoints, three saturation patrols and three Operation Buckle Down seatbelt checks within city limits in June.
Police officials say sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols are intended to reduce and eliminate the number of motorists who drive while intoxicated.
Additional enforcement activities in June may also include underage and party patrols, according to police.
Las Cruces Police encourage those who plan on consuming alcoholic beverages to use a designated driver or find another way home that does not involve driving after drinking alcohol.
Anyone who needs a safe ride home on Fridays, Saturdays or holidays between the hours of 5:30 p.m. and 3 a.m. can take advantage of Project Home, a program sponsored by Dona Ana County and Las Cruces Shuttle and Taxi. One or two people can receive a $5 taxi ride home from anywhere within Dona Ana County. For up to four people the fee is $10. Grant funding pays the balance of transportation charges.
