City requests proposal to develop water park/adventure park near Cohen Stadium; would include zip line

The City of El Paso is requesting proposals to develop a Northeast water/aquatic adventure park on 38.9 acres of land near Cohen Stadium in Northeast El Paso.

The proposals are due on Sept. 2, 2014.

In the request, the City of El Paso would like a 10 to 30 year operating/lease agreement with possible extension options.

The proposal specifications state that the water park facility would be open year-round and would entertain 200,000 guests annually with outdoor activity focusing on families.

Other items desired include dining/concessions, a “Lazy River” component, “Wave Pool” component, “Surf machine simulator” component and a minimum of three water slides.

A rock climbing wall and zip line also are desired.

It would also have an indoor sports complex that the City desires will support multiple team programs, have a minimum of four indoor basketball/volleyball courts, indoor soccer component, indoor basketball component, indoor volleyball component, indoor track component, and outdoor baseball component.

Although detailed information about Cohen Stadium is included in the 508-page request for proposals, a City of El Paso administrator told ABC-7 that Cohen Stadium would not be a part of the water park.
