El Paso boxer Antonio Escalante arrested for 3rd alleged DWI this year
El Paso boxer Antonio Escalante was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated twice since June and three times total this year.
According to court records, Escalante’s Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) was greater than or equal to .15 when he was arrested at 4:07 p.m. July 13 at 800 N. Piedras for alleged DWI.
Police say that probable cause for the traffic stop was defective vehicle equipment.
Police say the officer observed signes of intoxication on the driver, Escalante.
Escalante was unable to successfully complete the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was placed under arrest.
Escalante later provided a breath sample of 0.21 and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on the charge of Driving While Intoxicated with a BAC >.15. Bond was set at $750.
Escalante also was cited for not having or having an expired driver’s license, driving while using a cell phone, and no insurance.
Court records also show that Escalante was arrested on June 2 for allegedly driving while intoxicated with a child under 15 years of age.
Escalante also was arrested on Feb. 25 for alleged DWI. El Paso Police officers were responding to an assault in Northeast El Paso when they allegedly saw Escalante was asleep at the wheel with his vehicle in gear and the engine still running.
At the time of his February arrest, officers said he smelled of alcohol and could barely stand.
Escalante also allegedly had an open beer bottle in the cup holder during the February incident. Escalante issued an apology on his Facebook page in February, calling the incident a “big mistake.”
Escalante announced last week that he would be stepping into the ring to face Jose Pedraza for the IBO world title.
The fight is set for Aug. 15 in California and will be broadcast on ESPN’s Friday Night Fights.
