KVIA to livestream UTEP-Colorado State game Wednesday
The UTEP Miners men’s basketball team is set to face Colorado State at 7 p.m. MT Wednesday.
ABC-7 will livestream the game on kvia.com.
Colorado State (6-0) has six returning players, including starters Daniel Bejarano, J.J. Avila and Joe De Ciman, plus nine newcomers. The Rams’ schedule is one of the toughest in the Mountain West.
UTEP (4-1) just finished the Wooden Legacy tournament in which the team finished second, losing to Washington in the championship game.
“They are undefeated for a reason,” UTEP coachTim Floydsaid of Colorado State. “They play exceptional defense. Like all of coach [Larry] Eustachy’s teams, they are a dominant rebounding team. They’ve got a veteran team which makes them very dangerous, and a potential NCAA Tournament team because their older players are their best players and they’re very experienced.”
Colorado State has outrebounded all six opponents this season, a staple under Eustachy. The Rams’ rebound margin is +6.5 on the year. Senior forward J.J. Avila (7.7 rpg) and senior guard Daniel Bejarano (7.3 rpg) combine to average 15 boards per contest.
UTEP is 18-26 on the road under Floyd, but was 8-2 on the road last season — including 7-1 in Conference USA play. Overall the Miners have won 10 of their last 12 road games dating back to the 2012-13 season. The Miners have dropped their first road game in 12 of the last 16 seasons.
“This will be our first true road test and we’ll have to play with more poise for 40 minutes than we did in our last game against Washington,” Floyd said. “We must get off to a better start.”
