Incumbent Pete Gallego ousted in tight US Rep. District 23 race

The GOP reclaimed a sprawling west Texas district as former CIA agent Will Hurd upended freshman Rep. Pete Gallego. Hurd will be the only African-American Republican in the House.

With 97 percent of the vote counted, William Hurd is the winner over Pete Gallego.

Will Hurd, GOP 57,171 – 50 percent

Pete Gallego, Dem (i) 55,047 – 48 percent

Ruben Corvalan, Lib 2,919 – 3 percent

District 23 stretches from San Antonio to east El Paso County.
