Two dead in east El Paso motorcycle crash

Two people are dead after a two-motorcycle crash this morning near Edgemere Boulevard and Zaragoza Road.

The two drivers have been identified as Cody Wones, 24 and Gabriel Ortega, 27.

Police say this happened just before 2 a.m. Our round-the-clock news crew reported that the far right lanes of eastbound Edgemere Boulevard were closed.

Police tell ABC-7 that as the two motorcycles approachedthe intersection of Tierra Dorada, Wones crashed into the back of Ortega’s motorcycle which caused both men to be thrown from their motorcycles. Both men were wearing helmets but died at the scene from injuries sustained in the
crash.

Special traffic investigators were on scene.

These are the 56th and 57th traffic-related deaths of 2014 compared to 45 at thissame time last year.
