Former County Commissioner Tania Chozet enters City Council race; 5th person running for mayor

Ta nia Chozet is running for City Council representative for District 7 in the May 11 election, according to paperwork filed Monday with the Municipal Clerk’s office.

The seat is being vacated by Steve Ortega who is running for mayor.

Chozet was appointed by County Judge Veronica Escobar to serve on Commissioners Court for Precinct 3 on a temporary basis last year after Willie Gandara Jr. resigned.

Others running for City Council representative for District 7 are Todd S. Miller, Luis A. Leon, Ramon “Ray” Mendoza, and Jaime O. Perez.

Meanwhile, a fifth person has entered the race for mayor. Jorge Artalejo, a substitute teacher, filed paperwork on Feb. 14 to run for mayor.

Steve Ortega, Robert D. Cormell, Hector H. Lopez, and Leo “Gus” Haddad also are running for mayor. Mayor John Cook has reached his term limit this year.
