Update: Paramount Pictures won’t let Alamo Drafthouse show ‘Team America’ in place of ‘The Interview’
Dec. 18 Update: The Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas-Fort Worth won’t be showing “Team America: World Peace” after all.
“Due to to circumstances beyond our control, the screening of TEAM AMERICA on December 27th has been cancelled as the film has been removed from release,” the business posted on its Facebook page. “We apologize to anyone who has bought advance tickets and will be providing full refunds today.”
Deadline is reporting that Paramount has now decided not to offer the satire that focuses onKim Jong-il, the late father of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
“Team America” also was going to be shown in a theater in Cleveland. That screening also was canceled.
Dec. 17 Story: People won’t be able to see “The Interview” now that Sony has pulled the plug on its release.
But that’s not stopping the Alamo Drafthouse in Dallas-Fort Worth from showing a different film that took shots at North Korea.
“For the record, our plan was to still show The Interview…unfortunately these decisions aren’t always ours to make. But in light of these recent events, we only have one thing to say: “AMERICA (expletive) YEAH!” Alamo Drafthouse Dallas-Fort Worth wrote on its Facebook page. “Join us for a special showing of the TEAM AMERICA QUOTE-ALONG Saturday, December 27 at 7:00p. This show is FREE, because you can’t spell “FREEDOM” without “FREE.”
“Team America: World Police” was released in 2004.
Sony announced Wednesday it would not be releasing “The Interview” on Christmas Day as originally scheduled after the nation’s largest movie theater chains decided not to show the film.
A Sony spokesperson later said the company has no further plans to release the film.
The Sony hackers released a message this week stating terror would come to theaters that show “The Interview” and the message also compared what was to come to 9/11.
In “The Interview,” the CIA wants Seth Rogen’s and James Franco’s characters to kill the leader of North Korea.
