Businessman Oscar Leeser, ex-County chief of staff Jaime O. Perez file to run for El Paso mayor

On the last day to file, El Paso businessman Oscar Leeser and Jaime O. Perez both filed to run for mayor.

Friday at 5 p.m. was the deadline for candidates to file to run in the May 11 election.

Jaime O. Perez, the former El Paso County chief of staff, originally filed to run City Council District 7 representative but on Friday pulled his name from that race and filed to run for mayor.

Leeser is known city-wide for his car dealership’s sponsorship of the Hyundai Sun Bowl and advertisements featuring his mother Rhoberta saying, “My Oscar: he’s such a good boy.”

“My desire is to give back to El Paso, and create a climate that will advance the economic growth while representing the citizenry,” Leeser said in a news release.

Other candidates running for mayor are Robert D. Cormell, Hector H. Lopez, Leo “Gus” Haddad, Jorge Artalejo, and Dean “Dino” Martinez.
