UTEP’s Vince Hunter earns 4th C-USA Player of the Week honor this season

For the fourth time in seven weeks, UTEP sophomore forward Vince Hunter was appointed the Conference USA Player of the Week on Monday.

Hunter registered his eighth double-double in 12 games to earn MVP honors at the WestStar Bank Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational with another dominating performance against Kent State on Dec. 22. He scored 18 points and tied his career-high with 16 rebounds as the Miners edged the Golden Flashes, 78-75, for the tournament title. UTEP has won the event three years in a row for the first time since 1985-88.

Hunter ranks fourth nationally in double-doubles (eight) and 11th in rebounds per game (10.4).

He is UTEP’s first four-time winner of the C-USA Player of the Week honor in a single season. Stefon Jackson (2006-07 & 2008-09) and Randy Culpepper (2009-10) both won the award three times.

The Miners (8-4) will host Sul Ross State in an exhibition game on Tuesday at 7 before opening Conference USA play at North Texas on Friday.
