NFL season wraps up amid controversy

The National Football League season ended when the New England Patriots defeated the Seattle Seahawks 28-24 in Super Bowl 49. But does that mean the controversy from this season is over?

If any of these names sound familiar to you: Ray Rice, Greg Hardy and Adrian Peterson, it’s because the three players contributed to the development of a new personal conduct policy and the formation of a committee comprised of owners and former players. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell admitted that 2014 was a tough year.

Baltimore Ravens running back Rice was seen on video beating his then fiance in an elevator. Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was accused of hitting his son with a switch from a tree branch. The deflate gate scandal involving the New England Patriots under-inflating balls during the American Football Conference championship game against the Indianapolis Colts.

“I think it’s hurt their organization. Just the way they handled different scenarios. I think they could have handled it better,” one football fan said at Ojos Locos Sports Cantina during the Super Bowl.

The NFL is projected to make just over $9 billion this year. It was a year of many ups and downs but in the end, the Patriots earned the Lombardy Trophy.

The deflate gate investigation continues. Peterson can apply for reinstatement to the NFL in April. Rice won his suspension appeal and was reinstated but not approached by a team this season.
