Greyhound passengers stranded in Downtown El Paso

More than a hundred people are stranded at the Downtown El Paso Greyhound bus terminal.

It’s the result of severe weather to the North, West and East of El Paso.

Frustration doesn’t even begin to describe what those bus passengers are feeling, some who were stuck in the Sun City last night and are likely to be stuck here tonight too.

“They’re telling us it’s a 24 hour wait right now,” said one passenger.

“A bed and a shower would be nice,” said Greyhound passenger Mike McKay. “I’m wearing the same underwear I’ve had on for five days.”

Stranded Greyhound passengers told ABC-7 the bus company has given them a blanket, a donut and a water.

“I left California City on (Dec. 30) and I’ve been traveling on the Greyhound bus system since then,” said Ingrid Boyd, who is on her way to Chicago for a job interview that she’s already missed after spending the night in El Paso unexpectedly. “My luggage is also missing. I was told my bags should be arriving in Chicago and therefore if my bags are arriving in Chicago, then I should be there along with my bags. So I don’t even have the option to change my clothes if I wanted to.”

Greyhound security would not allow ABC-7 to shoot video inside the terminal, so Boyd shot some for ABC-7 showing passengers, including young children, strewn from one end of the terminal to the other, many sleeping on the floor.

“We’ve explained to them that some of us have been in the Greyhound bus system trying to get to our destination for two to eight days,” Boyd added.

A Greyhound spokeswoman told ABC-7 that the weather is expected to clear by the morning, although there are no guarantees at this point when buses will be cleared to travel to and from El Paso again.

“They’re still telling us that we don’t have any way out of here and that we’ll be here for the rest of the day,” said passenger Candice Rogers.

A Greyhound spokeswoman said severe weather conditions all around El Paso is making it impossible for buses to travel safely to and from the Sun City from Abilene and Lubbock, which is the next stop for many of those stranded.
