‘Tamales are of the past’ says McDonald’s in Mexico
In celebration of Candlemas Day, McDonald’s in Mexico posted a social media ad featuring a burrito stating, “Tamales are a thing of the past. The Mexican McBurrito also comes wrapped.”
“Los tamales son del pasado. McBurrito a la Mexicana, tambin viene envuelto,” stated the post, according to El Universal newspaper.
According to Mexican media, the fast-food giant came under heavy criticism for the ad and the post was taken down after critics said it showed a lack of respect.
Candlemas, also know as the Presentation of the Lord, is celebrated on Feb. 2 throughout Mexico. It commemorates Mary’s visit to the Temple in Jerusalem 40 days after the birth of Christ.
