Public libraries to offer free magazine download

The El Paso Library will soon make it easier to get your hands on magazines without having to pay for a yearly subscription.

On Thursday, Dionne Mack-Harvin, director of El Paso Public Libraries announced during a budget session that residents will be able to download magazines at no cost.

“We took the most popular magazines that we have in print, once you actually sign up it will give you a notification.

You subscribe once and the magazines come to you,” said Mack-Harvin to city council members.

There are currently 25 magazines that will be available, including Cosmopolitan, National Geographic, Motor Trend and Good Housekeeping.

A library card is required and residents will have to download the app Zinio to their smartphones, iPad or tablet.

Officials said there is no limit as to how many readers can download the same magazine.

Readers will also be allowed to check out multiple magazines.

The service begins August 1.
