New speed cushions in neighborhood cause debate
Newly installed speed humps in a neighborhood off Pino Real has caused some debate among neighbors.
“I think they are ridiculous,” one neighbor said. “I don’t think they are going to slow much down in the neighborhood.”
“Well, I think they are a good idea because I think it makes us slow down,” another neighbor said.
But the speed humps, what the city now calls “speed cushions,” were installed due to a two-thirds vote by surrounding neighbors.
To be considered for speed cushions, a majority of the neighbors have to sign an application for the neighborhood traffic management program.
The program will then look over the neighborhood for a certain amount of months to see if speeding or reckless driving is an issue. If that is the case, the program will then install the necessary supplies to hinder speeding.
Each cushion is roughly $4,500, but is paid for by the city from a separate fund for the traffic management program.
