Andress soccer player arrested in fight allegedly broke player’s jaw with kick, affidavit states
The Andress High School soccer player arrested in the Feb. 3 fight with Jefferson allegedly kicked an opponent in the face, breaking his jaw in two places, according to court records.
According to the affidavit, the victim, Edgar Perez, of Jefferson, and an unidentified player from Andress got into a physical altercation during the game between the two schools.
As a result of the physical altercation the Andress bench cleared with the players going onto the playing field. Bystanders then went onto the soccer field and went toward Perez, according to the affidavit.
Andress’ Cesar Ramirez then allegedly delivered “a solid kick” to Perez on the face as Perez was on his hands and knees trying to get up from the ground, according to the affidavit.
After Ramirez allegedly kicked Perez, Ramirez ran to his bench and covered his jersey number with a sweat top in an attempt to conceal his number, the affidavit states.
A witness of the incident identified Ramirez as the person who kicked Perez.
Perez fell to the ground unconscious after the kick to the face and was treated by EMS.
He suffered a broken jaw in two places, according to UMC staff.
Ramirez, 18, was arrested by El Paso Independent School District Police and charged with aggravated assault causing bodily injury.
A spokesman with EPISD told ABC-7 Wednesday that the district cannot release the student’s name or booking photo at this time, pending a decision from the attorney general.
“The district is checking with the attorney general on the appropriate manner to release this sensitive information,” the EPISD spokesman told ABC-7.
EPISD officials said Wednesday they do not expect more arrests in the incident.
