Expect intermittent lane closures on Santa Fe St., Mesa St. starting this week

Temporary lane closures on Santa Fe Street in Downtown El Paso and Mesa Street on the West Side will begin this week.

Check below for details.

Mesa Street lane closures

Motorists should expect intermittent lane closures at seven locations along Mesa Street between Baltimore and Camille beginning this week.

Crews will upgrade sidewalks and amenities there creating a more pedestrian-friendly environment. Additionally, work will improve connectivity to Sun Metro’s new Brio Rapid Transit System along the Mesa Corridor.

All seven sites will not be under construction at once, nor will work be continuous between now and February. When work is complete at one site, contractors will move on to the next.

Lane closures will be required at each of these seven locations over the next five months:

Camille Drive at Mesa Street
Mesa Street near Crown Point Mesa Street near Paragon Mesa Street near Argonaut Mesa Street near Castellano Mesa Street near Wallington
Baltimore Drive near Mesa Street

The construction project will include new ADA compliant sidewalks, ramps, and landscaping while modifying some existing driveways.

Santa Fe Street lane closures

One southbound lane of Santa Fe Street between Missouri Avenue and San Antonio Avenue will be closed to automobiles for two weeks beginning on Tuesday, September 30, 2014; the adjacent sidewalk will also be closed.

The closures are necessary to accommodate work on the Pedestrian Pathways project.

The project will stretch from Arts Festival Plaza in the Downtown Arts District to Durango Street in the Union Plaza District, including the Durango Street overpass. Construction in the corridor will include shade structures, stamped and colored concrete pathways, expanded sidewalks, landscaping, lighting, street furnishings, public art, and gathering places.

Construction of this project is funded by the 2012 Quality of Life Bonds.
