Weather not affecting production setup for One Direction concert; show going on rain or shine
Fear not, Directioners. Everything is going on as planned despite the heavy rains.
Jorge Vazquez, director of UTEP’s Office of Special Events, said everything is on schedule with the production setup at Sun Bowl Stadium.
“Yesterday, they finished and left earlier than anticipated,” Vazquez told ABC-7. Everything was already done for the day when the rain hit.
Thursday is production-venue prep day.
That is when the sound system, the speakers, the lighting, all the production elements are tested and weather won’t delay it.
The different production areas on site have their own weather stations so they can monitor the weather and adjust as needed.
The show will go on, rain or shine.
Umbrellas are not allowed at the concert, so take a poncho.
One of the few things that could affect the show is lightning. UTEP has a lightning detector, just like for any outdoor event they have, and monitor it by the minute and see if anything needs to be done.
Oh, and if you’re hoping to get a glimpse of 1D hanging around town, there’s bad news.
Friday’s show is a “runner” show, meaning the band will be in and out. There are rumors on social media that Niall Horan and 5 Seconds of Summer are in El Paso already and that Niall has been in El Paso since Wednesday night.
