Wedgewood and Montwood reopens to all traffic
It’s been a headache for months for Eastside commuters, but the intersection of Wedgewood Dr. and Montwood Dr. has finally reopened today.
While there’s plenty of construction still going on in the area, traffic can finally move through the intersection, much to the delight of nearby residents.
“It’s actually good, because it was difficult going the long way around, being late to work and going where I needed to be,” said Amanda Jacquez. “Now that I can just take my short-cut, won’t be late no more. So it’s really nice, because everyone else would take all the long routes and the other short cuts, so it was a lot of traffic.”
The intersection of Wedgewood Dr. at Montwood Dr is now open to all traffic, but there are still some hassles. East and westbound traffic on Montwood Dr. remains reduced to one lane as construction continues.
The intersection was closed by the city in October for contractors to install underground storm water infrastructure. There is still a lot of other work going on to the other side of the street and sidewalks in particular, so pedestrians beware.
But even with all of this work still happening, residents and drivers in the area were happy if a little frustrated with the progress.
“It’s pretty cool, makes things a lot easier,” said Andrew Ramirez. “I think it’s been going on way too long. I have no idea on anything about construction, but yeah.”
