Ysleta ISD concludes community meetings this week, expects tension at Riverside High
The Ysleta Independent School District is expecting some fireworks this week at its Riverside High community meeting. That meetingwill be the last time the superintendent explains why the district needs to hold a $300 million bond election.
Monday Dr. Xavier De La Torre went before the Parkland High feeder-pattern community. This is the fifth community meeting. The district said meetings average 700 parents and feedback is positive.
YISD is considering consolidating 11 schools, including Riverside High which would become seventh-12th-grade.
“Riverside tends to be the one that likely will be the most challenging, because it has the greatest decline in enrollment and there’s some very difficult decisions to be made,” De La Torre said.
The next meeting is Wednesday at Eastwood High, then Thursday at Riverside High. Both begin at 6 p.m.
De La Torre said the next step is flying in experts to verify the cost of the proposed projects. He said he wants to make sure the number he’s putting before voters is accurate.
