Grand jury indicts El Paso mother in death of 2-year-old daughter
A grand jury this week indicted the El Paso mother accused of leaving her 2-year-old daughter in a hot car overnight, leading to her death.
Daisy Mora Harper, 25, was charged by police with injury to a child by omission and criminal negligent homicide.
Court documents state Harper left her son and daughter in the care of her mother while she went out to have a few drinks with relatives.
Harper allegedly showed up drunk to pick up her kids at about 2 a.m. July 6.
Police say Harper got into a fight with her mother, and her brother agreed to drive her and his niece and nephew home.
Once at Harper’s home the woman’s brother took his nephew out of the car and put him to sleep.
Harper allegedly entered the home and watered her backyard before going to bed along with her son.
Police say Harper also texted her husband — who was out of town that night.
It wasn’t until noon — about ten hours later — when Harper’s brother ran into her room and told her Hailey Marie was not in her bed.
Harper told investigators she didn’t even think to look for her two year-old daughter before going to sleep.
Harper then discovered the toddler still in the car seat, after noon.
