Oct. 23 Update: El Paso Police have released a 2007 booking photo of Frank Aparicio, the man who killed himself and who police believe shot at a police officer and killed a woman.
It appears from court documents that the photo is from a 2006 DWI case.
Oct. 22, 2014 Story: El Paso Police have released the names of those found dead Tuesday and the officer wounded Monday in incidents the department believe are connected.
The officer who was wounded Monday night in a drive-by shooting is Officer Mike Garcia, a two-year-veteran of the police department.
Garcia is in stable condition.
Garcia was shot several times by a man in a passing car while Garcia was conducting a traffic stop on North Loop near Yarbrough in the Lower Valley.
Police believe the man that shot Garcia is Frank Aparacio, of the 12000 block Sal Rasura.
At about 5 a.m. Tuesday, a woman was found in a home in the 12000 block of Sal Rasura.
She has been identified as 61-year-old Cecilia Diaz, of the 9600 block of Sims. A neighbor of Diaz’s told ABC-7 Diaz was a sweet person.
Police have not said if Diaz was found in the same home that Aparacio lived in.
Patricia Ayala, Ysleta ISD spokeswoman, told ABC-7 Diaz was a teacher’s aide at Ysleta Pre-K from Jan. 2001 to Sept. 2013.
Police believe Aparacio killed Diaz and then committed suicide by shooting himself.
Aparacio’s body was found behind a Lower Valley shopping Center at about 9:55 a.m. Tuesday.
Police have not said why they believe the incidents are connected, only saying that physical evidence suggests the cases are all connected.
