68-year-old El Paso man allegedly shot and killed man in argument over money, according to affidavit
A 68-year-old man shot and killed a 46-year-old man during an argument about money, according to the police affidavit.
Gabriel Chavez, 68, has been charged with murder in the Nov. 21 shooting death of Carlos Marquez.
Victim’s name has been released and it is 46-year-old Carlos Marquez.
A police officer arrived to the 400 block of Duran at about 1:42 a.m. Nov. 21 and immediately heard two gunshots being fired in the vicinity of 412 Duran, according to the police affidavit.
The officer saw Chavez standing above the victim, holding what appeared to be a handgun, according to the affidavit.
Chavez was then arrested.
Chavez then provided investigators with a voluntary statement in which he admitted to knowing the victim.
Chavez also admitted to being involved in an argument with the victim over money the day of the shooting incident outside of his own home.
It was during the argument that Chavez went into his home, got his handgun, and met the victim outside of his house.
Chavez said words were exchanged between the two and then the victim rushed at him, causing Chavez to fire a single round at the victim, according to the affidavit.
According to the affidavit, Chavez knew the defendant was injured and walking away from the scene when he went up to the victim again and fired another round in the direction of the victim.
