Loyas defeat three others in Great Christmas Light Fight on national TV
The three other families featured in the second episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight had impressive Christmas displays.
But they were welterweights trying to battle the heavyweight light and musical show of the Loya family.
Once the host/judge, Michael, joined the Loyas and assembled crowd in shouting “Maestro! Turn on the lights!” the contest was over.
Michael’s eyes widened and his mouth dropped at the display.
He couldn’t even decide where to look.
What may have shined brighter than the lights, though, was the Loyas love for El Paso as they repeatedly praised the city they moved to decades ago from Mexico.
The Loyas are known for their light show at their home in East El Paso, drawing thousands of spectators each year. This is their 10th year.
The Loyas said they will donate the $50,000 in prize money to 10 charities they have selected.
Loya Christmas Light Show Schedule
Shows, which are free, are at 6 p.m., 7 p.m., 8 p.m. Friday-Saturday from Dec. 5-Christmas Day.
The house is located at 12001 Paseo de Oro in East El Paso. Hot chocolate and cookies served free of charge after every show.
People can take pictures with Santa and his elves. Pictures are posted free of charge on the El Paso Christmas Lights Facebook page.
Fun facts about the Loya family light display:
420,000 lights, 500 cords, 30,000 zip ties.
2000 ft. of CAT5 (high speed computer cable) /1500 ft. of DMX (lighting cables). Display has been seen from 30,000 feet in the air. Took 5 months to design and build the display. There are 44 angels, 35 reindeer, 36 Christmas trees and 15 snowman in the display.
