Social media helps shelter get into the Chirstmas spirit
A local shelter for women looking to get into the Christmas spirit is getting help from the El Paso community.
Dame La Mano, spanish for ‘give me your hand’, is a place for homeless women who need help getting back on their feet.
Many of the women with children or expecting who have left abusive relationships.
Director, Rose Cabrera wanted to add some holiday cheer, but doesn’t have the funds to buy a Christmas tree or decorations.
The generosity poured in after the word got our through social media.
Cabrera posted on the shelter’s Facebook page Thursday that she was in search of a used tree.
Later that day, people started dropping off decorations and two trees.
Some have dropped off gifts for the more than 20 children staying there, ages range from newborn to 12 years old.
“There are a lot of beautiful, caring people in El Paso,” said Cabrera.
Cabrera is grateful for it all, but is also asking for food donations. She said their supply is extremely low.
“It’s sad to see some of the women fighting over milk,” said Cabrera.
Dame La Mano is accepting donations.
The shelter is located at 1014 S. Virginia Street in south El Paso. For more information, call 546-4040.
