Preliminary master plan revealed for Eastside Regional Park
Residents are starting to see what Eastside Regional Park will look like.
The city of El Paso ‘s Engineering and Construction Management Department, along with area City Representative Michiel Noe, hosted a community meeting Wednesday evening to reveal the preliminary master plan for the 92-acre park.
Options for the park expected to be twice the size of Album Park were given during a community meeting last month, and people voted on their favorites.
The large lot near Montana Avenue and Hueco Club Road in far east El Paso isn’t much to look at now, but that will soon change.
“I happen to be an area softball coach. I’m looking at the new facility and am hoping to be able to expand our sport for our young ladies,” one man at the meeting said.
Noe told ABC-7 it’s now time to prioritize what will be built, into three different phases.
“This park literally will have something for everyone, young and old,” Noe said.
A dog park, amphitheater, skate park and community garden are just some of the amenity renderings from the Eastside Regional Park website. Noe said progress couldn’t happen soon enough.
The preliminary master plan can be changed before it’s presented to city council for a vote.
Phase one includes a swimming complex and community center. It will be paid for with part of the $48 million budget from the 2012 Quality of Life Bond. The second phase includes lighted flat fields, the skate park and community garden. Additional amenities will be added in the third phase.
