YISD confident bond will pass as campaign begins
Ysleta Independent School District Superintendent Xavier De La Torre said he feels very confident of the work put into the upcoming bond election on May 9. So much so that the district is already working on contracts to manage the projects after the bond passes.
De La Torre said if the bond passes, the district will have limited time to work on getting projects done over just five summers, and he wants to get started right away. The district expects a request for qualifications for a project manager to be finalized by mid-March. That manager will then set the master timeline for work across the district on the bond projects.
In case the bond doesn’t pass, the contract would then be null and void.
“If it moves forward,” De La Torre said. “Because we already have an RFQ out to hire a program manager that will start pre-bond work even before the election. And we won’t make a significant investment, but we’ll make enough so that the minute the decision is made in May, within a week or two we’ve got plans in place to get started.”
De La Torre also said that he’s confident because the district desperately needs what the bond includes. If it does fail, he said that the district will regroup, reorganize and put together another bond proposal for the November election.
