Afternoon monsoon storms anticipated this aternoon

This morning, ABC-7 meteorologists noticed easterly winds coming in from the Gulf of Mexico. This does not necessarily mean that the monsoon season has started, but it could be a sign of things to come.

The monsoon is when the wind shifts from a different direction, allowing for a change in the overall weather pattern. In this case, moisture returns to the Borderland, meaning better rain chances for the next couple of days.

Today, a 10% chance for afternoon storm is in the forecast, with better opportunities up in the Sacramento Mountains, including Cloudcroft and Ruidoso.

Some of these storms could produce heavy rain and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning.
