Update: Man shot by officer after burglary has died
A 22-year-old man shot by police in connection with a burglary has died.
Police were called out to a home in the 300 block of Jesuit in the Lower Valley at about 9 p.m. Wednesday.
Upon arrival the officers found the person they believed to be the subject of the call, Erick Emmanuel Salas Sanchez, and attempted to talk to him.
Sanchez then allegedly armed himself with a metal object and threatened to kill the officers, according to police.
An officer used his Taser on Sanchez to try and control him but it was not effective.
Sanchez, still armed with the metal object, allegedly charged at the officers and a 10-year veteran officer fired his duty weapon, striking Sanchez.
Sanchez was transported to Del Sol Medical Center where he died from his injuries.
The Crimes Against Persons Unit, Texas Rangers and the Shooting Review Team are all investigating the shooting.
As is customary, the officer involved will be placed on administrative duties pending the outcome of the investigation. Also, all officer involved shootings are presented the District Attorney’s Office, who in turn presents them to a grand jury.
