Healthier food options for Canutillo students
Students in the Canutillo School District will be seeing new lunch options when they return to school in August. The district hired Southwest Food Service Excellence to teach it’s cafeteria staff how to offer students more healthful choices they’ll actually want to eat.
The goal is to help kids eat better and expand their taste buds. The district is keeping things fresh for students who might grow bored with the usual lunchtime options, c Vice-President Monty Staggs likes to incorporate food choices with classroom curriculum.
“The cool thing is we like to, we pair a lot of our foods especially at the younger ages with what the kids are learning in their class. So if their learning about different parts of the world, we have a concept that goes along with that.” Staggs said.
Breakfast and lunch are free to all students regardless of their parents income. The program will train the district’s cafeteria staff in a variety of culinary techniques.
The company uses fewer processed foods and more made-from-scratch recipes.
