Chihuahuas Drop Opener to Albuquerque

A late El Paso Chihuahuas’ rally fell short for the second consecutive night, as the Albuquerque Isotopes beat the Chihuahuas 6-4Wednesday. Jake Goebbert went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the loss.

Shortly after Albuquerque’s Trevor Story hit a solo home run in the first inning, Goebbert hit a two-out, two-run triple in the bottom of the first, giving El Paso a 2-1 lead. The Isotopes sent 10 batters to the plate in a four-run fifth inning, taking advantage of five hits and an El Paso error. Cristhian Adames’ RBI single in the top of the sixth extended Albuquerque’s lead to 6-2.

The Chihuahuas loaded the bases with no outs in the seventh but did not score. Trailing 6-3 in the ninth, El Paso loaded the bases with no outs again, but settled for one run, leaving the tying and winning runs on base.

El Paso’s Colin Rea pitched three innings and allowed one run in his second Triple-A start. Chihuahuas’ reliever Eury De La Rosa threwtwo scoreless innings.
