Insurance agents flooded with claims in storm’s aftermath
As the Sun City continues to deal with rain, those hit hard by last week’s showers and hail are trying to recover.
For some, the wind, rain and hail left a mark — or worse.
State Farm Insurance agent Rafael Martinez said his office dealt with more than two dozen calls on Monday.
“People were worried about damage to their homes, but mostly it was about damage to their cars — hail damage,” said Martinez.
While the sight of dimpled hoods is enough to make car owners cringe, Martinez said the worst damage is what might not be visible right away.
“You may sustain some damage to your roofing materials but not have any leaks inside the house at that moment,” Martinez said. “But with time, the materials start to deteriorate quicker than they should, and that’s where the problems come in.”
Martinez suggests doing a visual inspection of your home.
“Look for any obvious signs of damage, such as loose shingles or a lot of the granules from the shingles around your home,” Martinez said.
Martinez said it’s a good time to check your insurance coverage. He also advised those in need of repairs to choose a reputable company, never to pay cash and not to pay the entire cost up front.
