Man allegedly bites Las Cruces Police officer

Las Cruces Police have arrested a man for allegedly biting an officer.

Charles McNally, 53, of the 1900 block of Carlyle Drive, is charged with one count of battery upon a peace officer and one count of resisting an officer.

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, July 12, Las Cruces Police were sent to McNally’s home on a report of a domestic disturbance.

As officers began to investigate the claims, McNally allegedly became belligerent and attempted to enter the home, ignoring lawful commands to remain outdoors.

As the officers tried to prevent McNally from entering the house, McNally became increasingly aggressive and allegedly bit the wrist of one of the officers.

Police say McNally continued to struggle and dug his fingernails into the officer’s arm, breaking the skin and causing bleeding.

The officers were able to handcuff McNally and take him into custody. The injured officer was treated and resumed his regular duties.

No charges were immediately filed in relation to the domestic disturbance claim. McNally was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center but has since posted bond.
